Introduction

The Black House is divided into 4 self catering holiday apartments, situated on the sandbank at Mudeford in a car free area at the entrance to Christchurch Harbour.

Parking

Parking is in a public pay & display carpark on Mudeford Quay or at Hengistbury Head. Car Park Weekly or Daily tickets available. Prices vary according to the time of year.

The nearest train station is Christchurch. From here take a taxi to either Hengistbury Head or Mudeford Quay both about 15mins drive.

Arrival

As Mudeford Sandbank is a car free area,  Access is via Ferry from Mudeford Quay or Land Train or Land Rover from Hengistbury Head.

Please bear in mind that you will need to carry your luggage the last 100yards over soft sand so you may want to travel light.

Ferry:- The ferry runs every day during school holidays & weekends only during winter months. (Weather permitting) Running times can be checked on www.mudefordferry.co.uk or Tel.07968334441 or contact us for details. The ferry journey takes approx 5 mins.
There is a small charge for the ferry (At the time of printing £1 per person)
The Black House is 5 mins walk  from the ferry landing stage. The walk is mainly on a gravel path & the last few yards are on sand.

Land Train:- The Land Train (Noddy)  runs everyday of the year except Xmas day. It runs on a tarmac lane around the edge of Christchurch harbour. The journey is 11/2 miles & takes approx 15mins. Contact us for operating times or call direct on 01202 425517 There is a 10 minute walk from the train stop to the house. The walk is on a gravel path until the last few yards which are on sand.
There is a small charge for the Land Train. (At the time of printing £1.20 per person)

The Land Rover Service runs along the same route as the train but will take you closer to the Black House. It gets as close as it can & stops at the rear of the House from where there is a 100yard walk over soft sand to the apartment entrances.
The Land Rover Service can also take your luggage & this is included in your holiday cost on arrival & departure day.
The Land Rover service must be booked in advance by calling them direct on 01202 425517

We provide a Luggage trolley at the Black House for your use.
Please note that when the Trolley is full of luggage it will need at least 2 people to push/pull it over the soft sand.

The Four Self Catering Apartments are named after nautical knots:-
Reef knot, Slip Knot, Fishermans Knot & Boat Knot

Reef Knot is a first floor apartment & the entrance door is facing the Harbour with an inside staircase. Outside is sand & gravel underfoot. Views of the harbour, Hengistbury Head & the sea.
Two bedrooms:- One Double & One Twin & One bathroom

Slip Knot is a ground floor apartment with the entrance door facing a sand dune on the sea side. Outside is sand & gravel underfoot. Views of the Harbour.
One bedroom & One bathroom

Boat Knot is a ground floor apartment with the entrance door facing a sand dune on the sea side. Views of the harbour. Two bedrooms  One Double & One Twin, One bathroom.

Fishermans Knot is on the first floor & the entrance is via an outside staircase with handrail. Three bedrooms One double, One Twin & One Bunks, One Bathroom.
Overlooking Mudeford Quay with views of the sea & harbour.

All bathrooms have a bath & shower, toilet & hand basin.
We provide one bath towel & one hand towel per person per week.

All bed linen is provided. (Except for the cots)

We have two cots & two high chairs available for hire.

Kitchens

All kitchens are fully equipped with full size cooker, microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge & freezer.
We provide tea towels & cleaning equipment such as washing up liquid, scourers & dishcloths.

Laundry

We have a communal laundry with one washing machine & one tumble drier. It is situated in the cupboard beside the entrance to the Slip Knot apartment.
Washing powder not supplied.

Outside

As soon as you step outside your door you are on the beach with sand & gravel underfoot. Outside is a public beach & there is no private garden or grounds.
 We provide wooden picnic tables & barbecues for each apartment. We also provide each apartment with folding beach chairs.

Eating Out

There is a Restaurant/Café called “ The Beach House ” on the sand spit near the Ferry landing stage. It is open every day in school holidays & evenings during the summer.
Weekends only in winter.

On Mudeford Quay there is a Pub called “The Haven Inn” which also serves food. There is also a Café & Souvenir shop.

Provisions

The Beach House also have a small shop selling basic provisions such as milk, bread, newspapers ice creams etc.

On Mudeford Quay there is a Fresh Fish stall to stock up for your BBQ
